In the search for a more conscious and environmentally friendly lifestyle, more and more decoration brands are joining the trend of ecodesign and circular economy. This trend not only seeks to beautify spaces, but also to create sustainable environments that reflect a commitment to the preservation of the planet.
Wehlers, a pioneering furniture company, is at the forefront of this movement, implementing strategies that align with the principles of the circular economy to contribute to a more sustainable future.
In this blog post we want to introduce you to the Wehlers brand and their chairs made from reused materials.
Wehlers: sustainable chairs made from reused materials
Wehlers is a Danish furniture design brand that uses responsibly sourced waste materials to produce high-quality chairs.
They believe in creating positive change in the furniture design industry through the concept of ecodesign and circular economy, which focuses on reuse, recycling and renewal to create a closed-loop system, rather than the traditional linear economy where products are manufactured, used and then discarded.
Circular economy
Design > Manufacturing > Distribution > Consumption > Recycling
By integrating this concept into decoration, we are not only transforming our immediate environment, but also contributing to the well-being of the planet and future generations.
Don't you know the R.U.M. chair?
R.U.M., as the famous Wehlers chair is called, s is short for Re-Used Materials and is made from fishing nets, pharmalit or electronic waste.
The Wehlers R.U.M. chair is proof that by designing according to circular design principles it is possible to significantly reduce emissions and the use of virgin materials, all without compromising on aesthetics, price or quality.
A chair designed to change the way furniture is made in the world.
A sustainable design piece of furniture that is not only really good to sit on, but which also speaks directly into our shared ambition for a green future.
Three colors, three reused materials
1. Keyboard black
The black color is electronic waste, or e-waste, and consists of recycled plastic from discarded electronic devices.
With technological appliances being produced and consumed in a large extent it is important to reuse the considerable amount of e-waste that, due to our consumption only naturally arises.
It is the fastest growing waste stream in Europe.
2. Pharma Blue
The blue color is made from Pharmalit, a composite material made from used pharma resources, mainly insulin pens.
By collecting this material and reusing it, we minimize waste and maximize the potential of these valuable health products.
3. Fisherman's green
The green color is made from discarded fishing nets. This is environmentally friendly and contributes to cleaner oceans and a healthier planet.
The majority of all fishing nets used in our products are collected from Danish or Faroese waters and sorted by hand in Denmark to ensure a correct usage of the material.
